Artificial Intelligence (AI), Dajjal, and the First Ten Verses of Surah Al-Kahaf

An Intellectual and Faithful Study (Introduction)

Islam is a religion that warns against the temptations of every era and strengthens man intellectually, spiritually, and morally. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) warned the Ummah in detail about the greatest temptation that will come before the Day of Judgement, the Antichrist. At the same time, he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) declared some actions and Surahs as a means of protection from this temptation, among which the first ten verses of Surah Al-Kahf stand out.

The era in which we live today is the era of technology, the digital world, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI has the ability to imitate human intellect, decision-making, information, voice, images, and even emotions. In such a situation, the question arises in the minds of many thinkers:

Can modern technology, especially AI, help us understand the temptation of the Antichrist?

And what message do the first verses of Surah Al-Kahf give us in today’s era?

This article examines these questions from a scientific, careful and religious perspective.

The Concept of Dajjal: In the Light of the Quran and Hadith

Who is Dajjal?

The word Dajjal is derived from the Arabic word Dajjal, which means:

  • To deceive
  • To mix truth with falsehood
  • To conceal reality

According to the hadiths of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him):

  • The Dajjal will be a human being
  • He will display extraordinary powers
  • He will call himself God
  • He will deceive people about Paradise and Hell
  • He will mislead people through knowledge, resources and deception

The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“There has been no greater trial than the Dajjal from the time of Adam until the Day of Resurrection.” (Sahih Muslim)

It is clear that Dajjal is not just one individual but a collection of trials:

Arrogance of knowledge, misuse of power, and confusion of truth and falsehood.

What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?

Brief explanation of AI

Artificial Intelligence is a technology that:

  • imitates human thinking
  • can learn (Machine Learning)
  • can speak, write, see
  • can make decisions
  • can create fake things like reality (Deepfake)

AI in itself is neither good nor bad, but:

“It is a tool, the use of which is in the hands of man.”

But the problem arises when:

  • Man begins to consider himself omniscient
  • Technology is given the status of a god-like power
  • Morality and revelation are ignored

This point has an intellectual similarity with the temptation of Dajjal.

Dajjal and AI: Intellectual Similarities

It is important to clarify here that:

Islam does not say that AI is Dajjal

Rather, according to some scholars:

AI can become an example or a means of understanding the temptations of the Dajjal.

  1. Deception and deception

The greatest weapon of Dajjal will be deception

AI can also:

  • Make fake videos (Deepfake)
  • Imitate someone’s voice and appearance
  • Make a lie look like the truth

Today, people cannot even believe what they see with their eyes. This is the same condition that is called fitnah in the hadith.

  1. Pride of knowledge

Dajjal’s tribulation will have a lot of knowledge, but no guidance

AI:

  • Has immense information
  • But it does not have guidance, revelation, and morality

Surah Al-Kahaf also mentions knowledge that causes pride, such as:

  • The era of the Companions of the Cave
  • The incident of Hazrat Moses (peace be upon him) and Hazrat Khizar (peace be upon him)

This teaches us that:

Not all knowledge is guidance unless it is connected to Allah.

  1. Divine Claim and Control

The Antichrist will convince people that:

  • He is capable of life and death
  • He can provide sustenance

Today, through AI and technology:

  • Surveillance of humans
  • Behavioral prediction
  • Economic control

All this is becoming possible, which can lead to a person becoming addicted to power.

The first ten verses of Surah Al-Kahaf: A recipe for protection

The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“Whoever memorizes the first ten verses of Surah Al-Kahaf will be protected from the temptation of the Antichrist.” (Sahih Muslim)

This question is important:

What is special about these verses?

The main themes of these verses

  1. The superiority of revelation

The very first verse of the Quran declares that:

  • The real guidance is from Allah
  • Human knowledge is limited

This message is very important in the age of AI.

  1. Protection of Monotheism

In these verses:

  • Denial of polytheism
  • The oneness of Allah
  • Strong denial of the relationship of the son

The trial of the Antichrist will also be an attack on Monotheism.

  1. The role of youth

The companions of the Cave were young people who:

  • Supported the truth against the majority
  • Clashed with the system

This message is for today’s youth who live in the AI and digital world.

  1. The reality of the world

Surah Al-Kahf tells us that:

  • The world is temporary
  • Power, knowledge and technology are tests

This awareness protects us from the trial of the Antichrist.

The practical message of Surah Al-Kahaf in the age of AI

  1. Critical Thinking

Do not believe everything blindly.

  1. Strength of faith

Technology is not God, the creator is only Allah.

  1. Moral boundaries

What is possible is not necessarily permissible.

  1. The responsibility of youth

Just as the Companions of the Cave migrated from the temptations, so today:

  • Wrong digital environment
  • Misleading content

It is necessary to avoid.

An important warning

It is important to remember:

  • The ultimate knowledge about Dajjal is with Allah alone
  • It is not correct to call AI as Dajjal according to Sharia
  • This is just an intellectual example so that we can understand the temptation

Islam does not give us fear but insight.

Conclusion

Artificial intelligence is a great invention, but:

  • If it is used without morality and faith
  • If man starts considering himself as God

Then this is what can give rise to Dajjal temptations.

The first ten verses of Surah Al-Kahaf teach us:

  • Humility with knowledge
  • Piety with power
  • And faith with technology

Finally, we pray:

May Allah protect us from the temptations of every era,

Make the Quran our guide,

And grant us the ability to avoid the temptation of Dajjal. Ameen
